Melbourne, Fla. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (1-2) earned its first win of the 2016 season with a 13-10 triumph over Florida Tech (2-1) Friday evening at Panthers Stadium. Florida Tech is ranked No.14 in NCAA Division II.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Mike Hanlon (Haymarket, Va.) scored three goals while senior midfielder Carson Sterling (Durham, N.C.) added a pair of scores and two assists in the victory. Hanlon and Sterling rank first and second on the team in goals with eight and seven, respectively.
Florida Tech, which suffered its first loss of the year, was paced by Logan Sweeney (Sykesville, Md.) with a game-high four goals despite the setback.
The Bears broke a five-all tie at intermission by outscoring the Panthers by a 5-1 margin in the third period to take control. Senior attacker Taylor Thilo (Greensboro, N.C.) scored the game-winner just 21 seconds into the second half.
Freshman attacker Joe Buduo (Shrewsbury, Md.) added two goals as well for the Bears, who held the edge in both shots taken (41-36) and ground balls (32-25) in the contest.
In goal, sophomore Ryan Crompton (Frederick, Md.) earned the win for Lenoir-Rhyne after tallying 10 saves while Florida Tech's Christian Koch (Sykesville, Md.) made 13 stops but suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road to take on Florida Southern on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., in Lakeland, Fla. Florida Tech hosts Mars Hill Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
