Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Shuts Out Glenville State, 14-0 And 5-0, In 2016 Home Opener

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (3-1) blanked Glenville State (0-2), 14-0 and 5-0, in a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon in the 2016 home opener at Bears Field.

Glenville State 0
Lenoir-Rhyne senior first baseman Colby Dishmond (Statesville, N.C.) hit a three-run home run and finished with four runs batted in while the Bears' quartet of pitchers limited the Pioneers to just two hits in the win.

Sophomore Matt Sullivan (Bristol, Va.) improved to 2-0 after being credited with the victory for the Bears, who put the contest away with a seven-run sixth inning.  Senior designated hitter Ryan Perkins (Woodruff, S.C.) also drove in three runs for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Glenville State's Kenneth Finzel (Manassas, Va.) suffered the loss as the Pioneers were also hurt by four errors.

In the nightcap, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Austin Hancock (Defiance, Ohio) improved to 1-1 after limiting Glenville State to just one hit in addition to six strikeouts over five innings of work.

Senior second baseman Will Thompson (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished with three hits and an RBI while Dishmond drove in two more runs for the Bears, who totaled 13 hits in the seven-inning affair.

Glenville State's Justin Oney (Logan, W.Va.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.  Zach Sanford (Waldorf, Md.) did have a pair of hits for the Pioneers.

The two teams wrap up the weekend series with a single game Sunday at 1:00 p.m., at Bears Field.
