Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (5-3, 2-0) powered its way by Wingate (3-3, 0-1), 18-9, Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference game at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) finished with a game-high six goals while senior midfielder Claire Wach (Cary, N.C.) added four goals and two assists as the Bears turned the contest into a rout by outscoring the Bulldogs by an 8-1 margin to close out the game.
Schwitkis has a team-leading 21 goals on the year while sophomore attacker Christine Faircloth (Winter Park, Fla.) added three scores and three assists in the victory.
Wingate, which scored four consecutive goals at one point to cut the margin to 7-6 late in the first half, was led by Paulena Dempsey (Jarrettsville, Md.) and Emily Nosek (Bel Air, Md.) with four and three scores, respectively.
Lenoir-Rhyne held the advantage in both shots taken (35-25) and ground balls (26-22) in picking up its third consecutive victory.
In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the win for the Bears while the Bulldogs' Arion Pierre (Haymarket, Va.) suffered the loss. Both players totaled nine saves on the afternoon.
Lenoir-Rhyne wraps up a seven-game home stand against No. 6 Rollins on Thursday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m. Wingate faces Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C., on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
