Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (5-4) suffered a 15-2 setback to Rollins (7-0) Thursday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
The Tars, ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II, received four goals from Kallie German (Centreville, Md.) and three scores from Claire Block (Bethesda, Md.) in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore midfielder Aubriana Benedetto (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) both scored for the Bears despite the loss. Schwitkis now has a team-leading 22 goals on the season. Lenoir-Rhyne also saw its three-game winning streak snapped.
The Tars took control early and built a 4-0 advantage just under nine minutes into the first half and never looked back.
Rollins also shut out Lenoir-Rhyne in the second half and held the edge in both ground balls (22-18) and shots taken (44-17). Kristina Coppolino (Winter Springs, Fla.) also scored twice for the Tars.
Rollins' Malorie Olin (Skaneateles, N.Y.) earned the win in goal after making seven saves while Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) suffered the setback despite making 17 saves on the day.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday against Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn., beginning at Noon. Rollins, meanwhile, faces Mount Olive on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., in Mount Olive, N.C.
