Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Holds Off Tusculum, 16-14, For Key League Victory

Greeneville, Tenn. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (6-4, 3-0) remained unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play with a 16-14 victory over Tusculum (7-2, 2-1) Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore midfielder Aubriana Benedetto (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) both scored five goals to lead the Bears to the win.  Schwitkis and Benedetto rank first and second on the team in goals scored with 27 and 21, respectively.

Kelsey Crow (Franklin, Tenn.) scored three times for the Pioneers, who saw their three-game winning streak come to an end.

Lenoir-Rhyne took control early with three goals in the first six minutes of action and maintained its advantage the rest of the way. 

Holding a 13-12 edge with under eight minutes remaining, Lenoir-Rhyne scored three straight times – including goals by Benedetto and Schwitkis – to put the game away.

Benedetto added a pair of assists for seven total points while sophomore goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the win after making 10 saves. 

Tusculum lost despite holding the advantage in both shots taken (40-28) and ground balls (29-23).  In goal, Brooke Wagner (Snellville, Ga.) made six stops but took the loss for the Pioneers.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to host Florida Southern at Noon on Saturday, March 26, at Moretz Stadium.  Tusculum travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba in a league game next Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
