Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (4-4, 2-0) made it three consecutive victories with a 17-6 win over Wingate (3-5, 1-1) in a South Atlantic Conference game Wednesday night at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior midfielder Carson Sterling (Durham, N.C.) scored a game-high five goals and the Bears broke a 3-3 tie early in the second period with nine straight scores to turn the contest into a rout.
Junior attacker Mike Hanlon (Haymarket, Va.) added three goals to increase his team-leading leading total on the year to 21 scores while sophomore midfielder Ben Corrigan (Johns Creek, Ga.) found the back of the net twice in the win for the Bears.
Six different players scored for the Bulldogs including Conor Gronbach (Cary, N.C.), who tied the contest at three with 12:39 left before halftime before the Bears began their run.
Ten players scored as well for the Bears, who held the advantage in both shots taken (43-35) and ground balls (44-23) on the evening. Lenoir-Rhyne also won 20-of-26 face-offs over Wingate.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Crompton (Fredrick, Md.) earned the win after making 13 saves on the night while Wingate's Jacob Ormerod (Lake Mary, Fla.) suffered the loss despite making 15 stops in goal for the Bulldogs.
Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to take on Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., in Greeneville, Tenn. Wingate hosts Lincoln Memorial on Saturday in a league game at 1:00 p.m.
