Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (3-3) moved back to .500 on the season with a 12-4 triumph over Shippensburg (1-1) Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore midfielder Aubriana Benedetto (Rochester, N.Y.) led the way with a game-high four goals while junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) and senior midfielder Claire Wach (Cary, N.C.) scored three times each as the Bears jumped out to a commanding, 9-2 lead at intermission and stayed in control the rest of the way.
Schitwkis and Benedetto rank first and second on the team in goals scored with 13 and 12, respectively, while sophomore goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) came up big for the Bears. Flueck registered 17 saves on the day.
For Shippensburg, Jordan Kengor (Limerick, Pa.) finished with two goals but the Raiders found themselves in too big of a hole to recover.
After holding a 3-2 advantage, the Bears took over with six consecutive scores. Lenoir-Rhyne also held the edge in both shots taken (33-30) and ground balls (40-27).
Shippensburg goalkeeper, Ally Frymoyer (King of Prussia, Pa.), made 11 stops but suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Coker in the South Atlantic Conference opener on Sunday at Moretz Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Shippensburg plays Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
