Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (4-3, 1-0) made a statement in its South Atlantic Conference opener with a 13-2 victory over Coker (1-1, 0-1) Sunday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore attacker Christine Faircloth (Winter Park, Fla.) led the way with a game-high four goals while senior midfielder Claire Wach (Cary, N.C.) added three scores and four assists as the Bears won their second straight contest.
Coker scored in each half with goals courtesy of Claudia Jenkins (Keedsyville, Md.) and Lindsay Ordemann (Toms River, N.J.).
Lenoir-Rhyne held a 4-1 advantage at halftime then took over in the second half by scoring nine straight goals to put the contest out of reach.
Junior attacker Torrey Schwitkis (San Diego, Calif.) added two goals and now has a team-leading 15 scores on the season for the Bears, who held a 34-19 advantage in shots taken.
In goal, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the victory after making 12 stops on the day. Coker's goalkeeper, Cassie Dodge (Virginia Beach, Va.), made 10 saves but suffered the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on Wingate in a South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday, March 12, at Noon at Moretz Stadium. Coker faces Truett-McConnell in Cleveland, Ga., on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
