Harrogate, Tenn. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (28-13, 9-9) held on to defeat Lincoln Memorial (24-15, 10-8), 6-5, on Monday afternoon at Hennon Field to take the South Atlantic Conference series.
Lenoir-Rhyne senior second baseman Ryan Perkins (Woodruff, S.C.) hit a solo home run and drove in three runs as the Bears jumped out to a 6-0 advantage and held on in the end to beat the Railsplitters. Perkins also finished with two runs scored and three hits in the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outfielder Marcus Shoemaker (Colfax, N.C.) hit a solo home run as well while Perkins' two-run single in the fourth inning gave the Bears a six-run lead.
For Lincoln Memorial, Jean Rodriguez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning and finished with three runs batted in despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore Matt Sullivan (Bristol, Va.) improved to 3-2 on the year after earning the victory while senior Matthew De La Rosa (Austin, Texas) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save. De La Rosa was able to register the final out with the bases loaded.
Senior first baseman Colby Dishmond (Statesville, N.C.) added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Bears, who top last year's win total with the triumph over the Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial's Chase Randolph (Harriman, Tenn.) fell to 1-2 after taking the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road on Wednesday when the Bears face Pfeiffer in Misenheimer, N.C., at 6:00 p.m., while Lincoln Memorial hosts Trevecca on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
