Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Powers By Winston-Salem State, 13-2

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (30-17) snapped a four-game losing streak with a resounding 13-2 victory over Winston-Salem State (23-19) Wednesday night at Bears Field.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior first baseman Colby Dishmond (Statesville, N.C.) hit two home runs and finished with six runs batted in while senior Wes McGuire (Richmond, Va.) improved to 2-0 on the year after going the distance.  McGuire struck out a career-high 12 batters while allowing just two runs in the process.

The Bears took control early with a five-run first inning highlighted by a two-run double from senior shortstop Matthew De La Rosa (Austin, Texas).

Dishmond hit a three-run home run in the third inning to increase the Bears' lead to 10-2 and put the game out of reach.  Dishmond rounded out the scoring with a two-run round-tripper in the fifth inning.

Winston-Salem State's Jason Baytop (Manchester, Md.) hit a two-run home run in the third frame but the Rams were held off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Dishmond finished with four hits while freshman outfielder Justin Dean (Mauldin, S.C.) totaled four runs scored and three hits to lead the Bears' 17-hit attack.

Winston-Salem State's Sam Burton (Pikeville, Ky.) fell to 1-3 on the year after suffering the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference action on Friday night against Anderson at Bears Field beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Winston-Salem State plays at Lincoln (Pa.) Saturday in a CIAA doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
