Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (2-7, 0-2) suffered a 3-2 setback to Brevard (2-5, 2-1) Tuesday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Tornados defeated the Bears by scores of 25-20, 9-25, 25-22, 20-25 and 15-8 and snapped a 16-match losing streak to Lenoir-Rhyne.
Brevard's Callie Chappell (Rosman, N.C.) and Hannah Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.) totaled 17 and 14 kills, respectively, while Erin Barr (Hamptonville, N.C.) finished with 37 assists in the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) finished with a match-high 19 kills while freshman defensive specialist Anna Smith (Harmony, N.C.) and junior setter Kathryn Sizemore (Arden, N.C.) added 17 and 16 assists, respectively, in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne totaled 15 blocks and six service aces despite the loss to Brevard. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Jaclyn Denny (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) added eight kills for the Bears in the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne next travels to Mars Hill, N.C., to face Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference match on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Brevard faces Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn., in a league match on Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m., as well.
