Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (3-1-1) bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Belmont Abbey (1-2-1) in a non-league contest Wednesday afternoon at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior forward Ismael Noumansana (Reims, FRANCE) scored twice – giving him a team-leading five goals on the year – to lead the Bears to the win.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman forward Devi Ndrita (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) opened the scoring just 5:18 into the match, heading the ball into the net off a cross from junior defender Sercan Cihan (Sundern, GERMANY).
Noumansana gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage in the 28th minute before Belmont Abbey finally got on the board when Scott Christman (Springfield, Va.) scored with just 21 seconds left in the half.
Lenoir-Rhyne put the match away with two goals in the span of four minutes midway through the second half including Noumansana's second score of the contest off a free kick at the 69:17 mark.
Sophomore midfielder Emil Tansinda (Sale, ENGLAND) rounded out the scoring for the Bears, who held a 15-14 advantage in shots taken. Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Zach King (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) was credited with the victory after making two saves.
Belmont Abbey's goalkeeper, Wes Holifield (Wilmore, Ky.), suffered the loss despite making six stops on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., against Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn. Belmont Abbey faces Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
