Greeneville, Tenn. – The Tusculum Men's Soccer Team (5-0, 2-0) remained unbeaten on the season with a 2-1 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (3-2-1, 0-1) Saturday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at Pioneer Field.
The Pioneers' Andreas Kvam (Valderoey, NORWAY) scored the contest-winner in the 62nd minute of action after deflecting home a crossing pass from Vetle Salte (Bryne, Norway), who was credited with the assist. Kvam now has four goals on the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore midfielder Romain Lopez (Cannes, FRANCE) scored the lone goal of the match for the Bears and tied the score at one at the 39:23 mark of the first half. The goal from about 10 yards out was Lopez's first of the year. Lenoir-Rhyne senior defender DeJean Charlton (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) was credited with the assist.
Tusculum's Georgios Charkoutsakis (Crete, GREECE) scored on a header off a corner kick in the 35th minute to open the scoring. The Bears held a 10-9 advantage in shots taken despite the loss.
Tusculum's goalkeeper, Jorge Alvarez (Gijón, SPAIN), earned the win after making a pair of saves while Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Zach King (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) suffered the loss. King was credited with one save.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference match at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Tusculum takes on Lincoln Memorial in a league match on the road on Wednesday beginning at 3:30 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn.
