Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (4-2-1, 1-1) picked up its first South Atlantic Conference win of the season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Catawba (2-3, 1-2) Wednesday evening at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.
Three players – senior defender DeJean Charlton (Lehigh Acres, Fla.), sophomore midfielder Emil Tansinda (Sale, ENGLAND) and junior forward Ismael Noumansana (Reims, FRANCE) – scored for the Bears in the victory.
All three goals came in the second half while both Charlton and Noumansana scored on free kicks from sophomore forward Marc Fernandez (Barcelona, SPAIN), who was credited with the assist on both plays.
The goal was Noumansana's team-leading sixth of the year. Tansinda's goal, the second for the Bears on the evening, was assisted by Charlton at the 70:15 mark of the contest.
Both teams totaled 14 shots on the night while junior goalkeeper Zach King (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) earned the save after making six stops. King now has three shutouts on the season. Catawba's Joe Gonzalez (Marion, N.Y.) made five saves but suffered the loss.
In the next round of South Atlantic Conference matches, Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., while Catawba returns home to face Coker Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
