Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Volleyball Team (4-7, 2-2) won its second straight South Atlantic Conference road match with a 3-1 victory over Tusculum (5-3, 2-2) Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.
Lenoir-Rhyne won by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 15-25 and 26-24 and evened its league record on the year.
The Bears were led by junior outside hitter Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) with 15 kills in addition to 10 digs while junior middle blocker Emily Steele (Greenville, N.C.) added 13 kills in the win.
For Tusculum, Laryssa Welch (New Castle, Ind.) totaled a match-high 18 kills and Shannon Murphy (Tinley Park, Ill.) and Hallie Zumack (Independence, Ohio) dished out 27 and 25 assists, respectively, in the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore setter Jessica Funk (East Bend, N.C.) tallied a double-double – 39 assists and 11 digs – and the Bears finished with seven blocks and five service aces in the victory as well.
Lenoir-Rhyne returns to action on Friday, September 23, at home against Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tusculum, meanwhile, hosts Queens Friday at 7:00 p.m., in a league match as well.
