Hickory, N.C. – The Anderson Volleyball Team (7-5, 4-1) downed Lenoir-Rhyne (4-8, 2-3) in five sets, 3-2, in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Trojans defeated the Bears by scores of 17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-27 and 15-10 in the road victory.
Anderson's Marissa Mitter (Redondo Beach, Calif.) finished with 16 kills and 15 digs while Emily Conlin (Glendale, Ariz.) added 55 assists in the win. The Trojans' Allison Gaminde (Boiling Springs, S.C.) totaled 12 kills on the night.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which suffered its third league loss at home in five sets this season, was led by junior middle blocker Emily Steele (Greenville, N.C.).
Steele finished with 15 kills and six solo blocks while freshman outside hitter Katrina Samuels (Blythewood, S.C.) added 14 kills in the loss for the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore setter Jessica Funk (East Bend, N.C.) dished out 44 assists and the Bears totaled 15 blocks on the night despite the loss. The Bears were also hurt by eight service errors.
In the next round of South Atlantic Conference matches on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Newberry while Anderson travels to Brevard, N.C., to face Brevard.
