Wingate, N.C. – The Wingate University Volleyball Team (16-0, 8-0) remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (4-10, 2-5) Friday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Cuddy Arena.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II, defeated the Bears by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-21.
Wingate was led by Katie Bludau (Seabrook, Texas) with a match-high 17 kills while Rachel Lods (Lancaster, Calif.) and Rachel Alles (Tinley Park, Ill.) added 19 and 16 assists, respectively, in the victory.
Treslyn Ortiz (Texas City, Texas) totaled 12 digs for the Bulldogs, who remained in sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Lenoir-Rhyne, which suffered its third straight setback, was led by freshman outside hitter Katrina Samuels (Blythewood, S.C.) and junior middle blocker Samantha Bishop (Spring Hill, Fla.) with six kills each.
Sophomore setter Jessica Funk (East Bend, N.C.) added 19 assists for the Bears, who hit just .165 for the match.
In the next round of South Atlantic Conference matches on Saturday, Wingate hosts Brevard at Noon while Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Hartsville, S.C., to take on Coker beginning at 2:00 p.m.
