Greenwood, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (1-0-1) earned a key regional road victory over Lander (0-2), 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior forward Ismael Noumansana (Reims, FRANCE), an All-South Atlantic Conference honoree, scored both goals – one in each half – in the shutout win.
Sophomore forward Marc Fernandez (Barcelona, SPAIN) and junior defender Sercan Cihan (Sundern, GERMANY) assisted on the goals which came at the 14:07 and 69:57 marks, respectively. Both shots were from the right side of the box.
Lander held a 20-12 advantage in shots taken but Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Zach King (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) notched the victory after making eight saves to keep the Bearcats off the scoreboard.
Lander's goalkeeper, Dean Cowdroy (Canberra, AUSTRALIA), made four saves but suffered the loss. The Bearcats have lost their first two matches of the year after going 14-3-2 last season and earning a berth in the playoffs.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex while Lander plays Erskine in Due West, S.C., on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., as well.
