Lenoir-Rhyne Suffers Road Setback In Women’s Basketball, 76-61 To Livingstone

Salisbury, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (7-5) fell to Livingstone (5-7), 76-61, Monday afternoon at New Trent Gymnasium.

The Blue Bears were paced by Deonna Young (Winston-Salem, N.C.), who came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points while Zena Lovette (High Point, N.C.) added a double-double – 13 points and 13 rebounds – as Livingstone handed Lenoir-Rhyne its second straight loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by senior center Chelsey Romero (Hampton, Va.) with a team-high 18 points while senior forward Brooke Robinson (Vale, N.C.) added 15 points but the Bears turned the ball over 26 times in the setback.

Livingstone held a 35-30 advantage at intermission before taking control by scoring the first 10 points of the second half to take its largest lead of the contest.

Brittany Taylor (Suitland, Md.) added 16 points for Livingstone, who hit eight three-pointers and pulled down 14 offensive rebounds in the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior forward Morgan Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored 12 points off the bench but the Bears hit just two-of-13 three-point attempts in the setback.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday against Newberry at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Livingstone, meanwhile, hosts Elizabeth City State in a CIAA game on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
