Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team (8-5, 4-3) got back to its winning ways with a 50-36 victory over Newberry (7-4, 3-4) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

Morgan Cooper (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the way with a game-team 14 points while sophomore forward
Madi Suddreth (Taylorsville, N.C.) added 12 points as the Bears held the Wolves to just 23 percent shooting (13-of-57) for the contest in the setback.
Newberry was led by Shelby Britten (Shepparton, Vic, Australia) with 13 points and Jaya Shultz (Santa Clarita, Calif.) with eight points and 17 rebounds in the losing effort.
Lenoir-Rhyne's defense, the top-ranked unit in the conference, was on full display tonight. The Bears held the Wolves to just five points in the third period and used a 14-0 run to end the stanza on their way to the victory.
Lenoir-Rhyne also improved to 7-0 at home and has now won 14 straight games at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium dating back to last year.

Alecia Bell (Newport News, Va.) added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench in the victory. Lenoir-Rhyne also held Newberry to one three-pointer in 12 attempts and blocked six shots in the triumph.
In the next round of South Atlantic Conference games on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Anderson, S.C., to take on Anderson while Newberry hosts Tusculum in a league contest.
