LR Men’s Soccer Escapes Edge-Of-Your-Seat Thriller In 4-3 Win Over Catawba

Salisbury, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team (6-2-3, 3-2-2) used a hat trick from junior forward Ignacio de Goya (Madrid, SPAIN) and a match-winner from freshman midfielder Victor Cascon (Salamanca, SPAIN) with just over three minutes left to hold off feisty Catawba (1-8-1, 1-4-1), 4-3, Wednesday night in a South Atlantic Conference match at Frock Athletic Complex.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior Zach King  (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) earned the win in goal after making four saves.  King's individual record continues to match the team's overall mark.  Catawba's goalkeeper, Joe Gonzalez (Cambridge, ENGLAND), didn't start the match but suffered the loss and fell to 0-4 while picking up two saves in the process.
•    The Bears outshot the Indians, 15-11, while eight of the Lenoir-Rhyne's 15 shots (53.0 percent) were ruled on goal.  The home team had seven of its 11 shots (63.6 percent) on goal.
•    LR's de Goya earned the hat trick before halftime and almost single-handedly dealt Catawba its eighth loss of the season.  de Goya now has a team-leading nine goals on the year.
•    Cascon's goal was the third of the season in his inaugural campaign for the Bears and he added an assist as well.
•    The Indians scored three late second-half goals in a span of 15 minutes:  two from Philipp Hollenhorst (Muenster, GERMANY) and one from Jack Ragen (Terrigal, AUSTRALIA).
•    The Bears were able to edge the home team in corner kick opportunities, 4-3.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    de Goya's hat trick is the first by a Lenoir-Rhyne player since senior forward Ismael Noumansana (Bamako, MALI) in a 3-0 victory over Mars Hill on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, in Mars Hill, N.C.  de Goya also has five goals in his last two matches.
