Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team (2-4, 1-3) suffered a 34-7 setback to Newberry (4-2, 2-0) Saturday afternoon on the Bears' Homecoming at Moretz Stadium.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Newberry's quarterback, Greg Ruff (Rock Hill, S.C.), threw for three touchdown passes – all to wide receiver Markell Castle (York, S.C.) - and ran for a score as the Wolves built a 28-0 lead early in the third quarter. Castle finished with 135 yards receiving on six catches.
• The Bears' lone score came in the third quarter at the 8:56 mark when junior wide receiver
T.J. Smith (Charleston, S.C.) caught a six-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback
Jarrod Kellar (Shinnston, W.Va.).
• The league's leading running back, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore
Nelson Brown (Salisbury, Md.), finished with 88 yards rushing and 67 yards receiving. On defense, the Bears were led by sophomore defensive back

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Newberry has won three straight games against Lenoir-Rhyne and four consecutive games overall. The Wolves also retained the Bishops' Trophy, which marks the annual battle between the two Lutheran Schools of North and South Carolina.
• LR won't play home again until Saturday, November 4, at 2:00 p.m., against Carson-Newman for Senior Day.
