Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Falls To Newberry, 61-54, In League Opener

Newberry, S.C. – The Newberry Women's Basketball Team (4-2, 1-0) opened South Atlantic Conference play with a 61-54 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne (2-3, 0-1) Tuesday evening at Eleazer Arena.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Newberry's Shelby Britten (Shepparton, Vic, Australia) led all scorers with 25 points to go along with four treys while Meg Essex (Glamorgan Vale, Qld, Australia) added 14 points in the victory.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior guard Kendall Toineeta (Cherokee, N.C.) totaled a team-high 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds and junior forward Madi Suddreth (Taylorsville, N.C.) added 12 points and eight boards in the setback.
•    The Bears were limited to just 32 percent shooting (20-for-62) in the loss.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    The Bears are 1-1 on the road this season.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne's 54 points scored were a season-low in the loss as well.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to face Lees-McRae on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in a non-conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.  Newberry hosts Erskine Friday night beginning at 6:00 p.m.
