Hickory, N.C. – The Anderson Women's Basketball Team (19-5, 16-4) kept its slim hopes alive for a third straight league championship after escaping Lenoir-Rhyne (15-11, 11-9), 77-76, Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference game at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
Anderson's Heather Jankowy (Walhalla, S.C.) and Madison Baggett (Huntsville, Ala.) each scored 22 points while Jankowy hit six of the Trojans' 12 three-pointers in the victory and the season sweep over the Bears.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by senior forward
Brooke Robinson (Vale, N.C.) with a career-high 21 points while senior center
Chelsey Romero (Hampton, Va.) added a double-double – 17 points and 11 rebounds – in the setback.
The Trojans' Alexy Mollenhauer (Lindale, Texas) hit the game-winning free throws with two seconds left as Anderson remained in sole possession of third place in the conference standings.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore forward
Madi Suddreth (Taylorsville, N.C.) added 16 points and the Bears shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field despite the loss. The Bears also suffered their third straight setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Queens for Senior Night on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., while Anderson visits Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn., in a league showdown.
