Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (3-0) opened the 2017 home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Glenville State (0-2), 14-9 and 11-4, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.

Game One – Lenoir-Rhyne 14, Glenville State 9
Trailing by a 9-6 score, the Bears took control with a seven-run seventh inning highlighted by junior pinch hitter Cole Fowler's (Dobson, N.C.) three-run, game-winning triple.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outfielder Justin Dean (Mauldin, S.C.) led the way for the Bears with four hits, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

Glenville State's John Peloro (Weeki Wachee, Fla.) and Zach Bacon (Seminole, Fla.) both finished with two hits and two runs batted in but the Pioneers were hurt by five errors in the contest.

On the mound, Lenoir-Rhyne's Connor Dailey (Rutherfordton, N.C.) (1-0) earned the win after striking out five batters in middle relief while Glenville State's Tyler McKinsey (Fairmont, W.Va.) (0-1) suffered the loss.

Once again, the Bears used a big inning – this time a six-run fifth inning – to complete the sweep of the Pioneers.
