Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Pulls Out 14-12 Road Win Over Wingate

Wingate, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (4-2, 1-1) picked up its first South Atlantic Conference win of the year with a 14-12 victory over Wingate (4-2, 0-1) Saturday afternoon at Graham Gill Field.

Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) had one of the biggest impacts for the Bears – scoring a team-high four goals – while sophomore midfielder Rachel Elmore (White Plains, Md.) and freshman midfielder Alyssa Sack (Senoia, Ga.) added three scores each as the Bears won their second straight contest.  Sack leads the team with 12 goals on the year.

Wingate's Brittany Andrews (Bel Air, Md.) was the leading scorer on the day – totaling six goals – and Shannon O'Neal (Severna Park, Md.) scored four times but it wasn't enough for the Bulldogs.  Wingate tried to rally from a 12-6 deficit early in the second half but Lenoir-Rhyne's defense, which caused nine turnovers, was able to hold on.

Lenoir-Rhyne junior All-American Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the win after making five stops and playing the entire 60 minutes.  Wingate goalkeeper Arion Pierre (Haymarket, Va.) took the loss despite making 10 saves.  Lenoir-Rhyne held a 32-21 advantage in shots taken as well in the win.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Lock Haven (Pa.) on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., at Moretz Stadium.  Meanwhile, Wingate hosts Edinboro (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., as well.
