Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (4-3) put up a valiant effort but fell short to No. 13 Lock Haven (3-0), 13-10, Wednesday afternoon at chilly Moretz Stadium.
Lock Haven's Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa.) scored four goals as the Bald Eagles were able pull out a close victory over the Bears as the advantage was never more than three goals the entire contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by sophomore attacker
Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) with four goals as well while freshman midfielder
Alyssa Sack (Senoia, Ga.) added three scores in the setback. Both players also had two assists while Sack now leads the team with 15 goals and 19 points.
With the score tied at nine, Engler gave the Bears the lead for good with a goal at the 10:51 mark of the second half and the Bald Eagles were able to hold on for the victory.
Lock Haven held the advantage in both shots taken (27-23) and ground balls (21-17) while Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J.) earned the win in goal after making seven saves. Lenoir-Rhyne junior All-American goalkeeper
Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) suffered the loss despite stopping eight shots.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to face Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference game on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Lock Haven takes on eighth-ranked Queens in Charlotte, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m.
