Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (16-11) picked up an 8-4 win over Lander (12-15) Wednesday evening at Bears Field.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outfielder
Justin Dean (Mauldin, S.C.) and sophomore designated hitter
Zach Jacobs (Moncks Corner, S.C.) both hit home runs as the Bears raced to an 8-1 advantage after five innings of play on their way to the victory.
Junior third baseman
Fred Wadsworth (Columbia, S.C.) came through with the game-winning, RBI single in the third frame while Jacobs rounded out the scoring with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Bearcats were led by Nathan Schreckengost (Winter Garden, Fla.), who finished with three hits and a run batted in despite the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior
Austin Hancock (Defiance, Ohio) (1-1) earned his first win of the season in relief after throwing two scoreless innings while the Bears used eight pitchers to strike out 15 batters on the night. Lander's J.D. Waite (Summerville, S.C.) fell to 1-2 after taking the loss.
The Bears hit the road to take on Rollins to start a three-game weekend series in Winter Park, Fla., on Friday beginning at 5:00 p.m. Lander hosts USC Aiken on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
