Winter Park, Fla. – The Rollins Baseball Team (17-10) jumped out to a six-run advantage and held on to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne (17-12), 7-5, Saturday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.
The Tars' Mike Purcell (Cheshire, Conn.) hit a two-run double as part of four-run fifth inning and Rollins took advantage of three Lenoir-Rhyne errors by plating four unearned runs in the contest.
Trailing by a 7-1 score after six innings of play, Lenoir-Rhyne tried to start a rally with three runs in its half of the seventh highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore outfielder

Vecchione pitched the ninth inning for his fifth save of the year. A.J. Chacon (Lutz, Fla.) (5-1) was credited with the win for the Tars.
For Lenoir-Rhyne, junior outfielder
Marcus Shoemaker (Colfax, N.C.) added two hits and a RBI but freshman
John Grigg (Lawndale, N.C.) fell to 2-2 after taking the loss. Shoemaker (.458) continues to lead the South Atlantic Conference in hitting.
