No. 10 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Wraps Up Shaw Challenge With 3-1 Victory Over Charleston

Cary, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (21-2), ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division II, won its 15th consecutive game with a 3-1 triumph over Charleston (5-5) Sunday morning at Middle Creek Park in the Shaw Challenge.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior catcher Sarah Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) hit her team-tying fifth home run of the year – a three-run shot in the first inning – while sophomore Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) improved to 11-0 on the year with the victory on the mound.

Parks allowed just one run in addition to five strikeouts as the Bears won all five games at the tournament.

For Charleston, Rachelle Toppings (Houston, Texas) drove in a run while Alli Burdette (Charleston, W.Va.) fell to 2-3 after taking the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns home to take on Augusta on Wednesday at Bears Field beginning at 2:00 p.m., in a doubleheader.  Charleston next competes against Caldwell and California (Pa.) on Monday, March 13, in Clermont, Fla., at 3:30 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
