Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (20-19) fell to Tusculum (24-11) by a 9-4 score on Tuesday evening in a non-conference, regional contest at Bears Field.
The Pioneers' Daulton Martin (Lancaster, Pa.) and Bradley Evans (Shelby, N.C.) both hit home runs and drove in three runs as Tusculum avenged an earlier loss to Lenoir-Rhyne at home.
Martin's home run, a two-run round-tripper, opened the scoring for the Pioneers and was part of a three-run second inning and gave Tusculum the lead for good.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore outfielder
Zach Jacobs (Moncks Corner, S.C.) cut the lead to 4-2 with a two-run single in the bottom of the third inning but the Bears couldn't get any closer the rest of the way. Sophomore pinch hitter
Matthew Freeman (Belews Creek, N.C.) added an RBI double for the Bears in the losing effort.
Tusculum's Ethan Stewart (Bostic, N.C.) (1-1) picked up his first win of the year after throwing seven innings and striking out 11 batters. McKenly Berry (Elizabethton, Tenn.) earned his fifth save of the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman
John Grigg (Lawndale, N.C.) fell to 2-4 after being tagged with the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne hits the road to take on Augusta University on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Tusculum faces Trevecca Nazarene on the road Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
