Lakeland, Fla. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (9-5) was dealt a 15-5 loss to No. 4 Florida Southern (16-2) Friday evening at Bryant Stadium.
The Mocs, the defending NCAA Division II National Champions, scored the first 11 goals on the contest and never looked back.
Florida Southern was led by Dani Bursinger (Powell, Ohio) with three goals while Meghan O'Brien (Rochester, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists in the victory. O'Brien has 45 goals, 20 assists and a team-leading 65 points on the year.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by sophomore attacker
Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) with three goals – giving her a team-leading 37 goals on the year – in the losing effort.
Florida Southern, winners of 13 straight matches, held advantages in both shots taken (32-16) and ground balls (17-11) in the victory.
In goal, Taylor Gillis (Bel Air, Md.) earned the victory for the Mocs while junior All-American
Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) suffered the loss despite stopping 11 shots.
Lenoir-Rhyne remains on the road to take on Rollins in Winter Park, Fla., on Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Florida Southern faces No. 7 Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., on Saturday, April 22, at Noon.
