Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne University Volleyball Team (5-2, 2-0) made it four straight victories with a 3-0 sweep of Catawba (3-4, 1-2) Tuesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference match at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Bears won by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17 and swept their second consecutive league opponent.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by freshman outside hitter
Taylor Prall (Tipp City, Ohio) with a match-high 12 kills while senior outside hitter
Brooke Redmond (Statesville, N.C.) added 10 kills and eight digs in the win.
Catawba, which hit just .090 for the match, was led by Micah Ensor (Marietta, Ga.) and Kimberly Hurtado (Indian Trail, N.C.) with seven kills each.
Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore defensive specialist
Anna Smith (Statesville, N.C.) added a match-high 22 assists as the Bears totaled five service aces and six blocks in the victory. Lenoir-Rhyne is one of two league teams – Wingate is the other – who remains unbeaten in conference play.
In the next round of conference matches on Friday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m., Lenoir-Rhyne takes on Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., while Catawba faces Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn.
