Men’s Soccer Scores Twice Late to Stun Lincoln Memorial

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team used two penalty kicks and a dramatic game-winner from long range to take down South Atlantic Conference foe Lincoln Memorial on Saturday night, 3-2. Trailing 2-1 late in the second half, the Bears scored twice in the final four minutes of the game to stun the visitors.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
•   This time it was a pair of seniors, Ignacio de Goya and captain Florian Simon, that took center stage for the Bears in the scoring column. Simon scored on two penalty kicks to keep the Bears in it, and de Goya knocked in the game-winner from 30-yards out with under three minutes to play.
•  Lenoir-Rhyne actually fell behind in the shot count, 14-10, and in shots on goal the Railsplitters doubled the home squad, 10-5. LMU had more corner kicks than the Bears, 5-4, and there were seven yellow cards called in the match between both teams.
•   Junior Alex Langer continues to reflect his record with the team's at 7-4. He managed to grab eight saves in the process while LMU's keeper, Caleb Cothrin grabbed three of his own.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    de Goya is now at three goals on the year while Simon increased his goal total to five.
•    The Bears have now won four of the past five games and hold a 4-1 record at home in the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.
•    Simon has surpassed his goal total from last season, which was three, and added four points to his season total, now standing at 11.

UP NEXT:
LR will stay at home for their next match, honoring seniors on Wednesday night as they take on Catawba at 5:00 p.m. The Railsplitters will return home in preparation for a home South Atlantic Conference match with the Tusculum University Pioneers on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
