LR Softball Makes It Eight Straight With Wins Over Shippensburg And Virginia-Wise

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (10-3) ran its winning streak to eight games with victories over Shippensburg, 5-1, and Virginia-Wise, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Bears Field.

STATS OF THE GAME (Shippensburg):
•    Trailing by a 1-0 score, Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore pinch hitter Mackensi Swain (Pinetown, N.C.) came through with the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs.  The Bears put the contest away with a three-run fifth frame.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior Emily Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) improved to 5-1 on the year with the complete game victory.  Kenley allowed one unearned run while Taryn Wilson (Hegins, Pa.) (3-2) took the loss for the Raiders.
•    Senior shortstop Madison Carter (Bessemer City, N.C.), the Bears' leading hitter this year (.362), added an RBI double as Lenoir-Rhyne finished with 10 hits in the contest.
 
STATS OF THE GAME (Virginia-Wise):
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) threw her second shutout this year.  Parks improved to 4-2 after scattering four hits in addition to eight strikeouts.
•    LR broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of sixth inning thanks to run-scoring ground outs by senior second baseman Madison Poe (Siler City, N.C.) and Carter.
•    Virginia-Wise's Taylor Brandts (King George, Va.) (0-1) suffered the loss despite going the distance and striking out six batters.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Gaffney, S.C., to take on Limestone in a doubleheader Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
