No. 11 Belmont Abbey Baseball Too Much For Lenoir-Rhyne

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (12-6) suffered a 19-3 loss to Belmont Abbey (16-2) at home on Tuesday at Bears Field in a non-conference regional affair.  The Crusaders, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II, ran their winning streak to 11 games.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    The Crusaders put the contest away early, leading by a 12-0 score after three innings of play. The early onslaught was spearheaded by Colin Rosenbaum (Archdale, N.C.) who hit a grand slam in the third inning and finished with six runs batted in.
•    Belmont Abbey's Kevin Elefante (Chapel Hill, N.C.) added a three-run home run while Griffin Baker (Durham, N.C.) (1-0) was credited with the victory.
•    For Lenoir-Rhyne, junior catcher Zack Shoemaker (Colfax, N.C.) and junior pinch hitter Hunter Jackson (Cherryville, N.C.) drove in runs while junior Clayton Jeffries (Lakeland, Fla.) (1-1) was tagged with the setback for the Bears.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    In the latest NCBWA NCAA Division II Southeast Regional rankings, Belmont Abbey is ranked No. 1 and Lenoir-Rhyne is ranked tenth.

Lenoir-Rhyne next travels to Florence, S.C., to take on Francis Marion in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 3, in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Belmont Abbey travels to Wilson, N.C., to face Barton in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 3.
