Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Opens Offense In 20-9 Victory Over Tusculum

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (3-6, 3-0) stayed at the top of the South Atlantic Conference standings with a 20-9 victory over Tusculum (2-7, 0-1) Sunday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore attacker Cathleen Gaffney (Allentown, Pa.) led the way with five goals and four assists while sophomore midfielder Kaley Harris (Havre de Grace, Md.) added four scores as the Bears broke open a close contest by scoring eight straight goals over both halves to take the win.
•    Tusculum's Emily Gleason (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Juliette Cusano (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) both scored three times but the Pioneers lost their fifth straight game.
•    Holding a 9-7 advantage with 6:54 left in the first half, the Bears reeled off eight consecutive scores to turn the contest into a rout.  
•    Junior midfielder Ashley MacIntyre (Vero Beach, Fla.) added three goals for Lenoir-Rhyne, who held a 30-21 advantage in shots taken.  Senior goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) stopped five shots and earned the win for the Bears.
•    Tusculum's Brooke Wagner (Snellville, Ga.) made five saves as well in goal but took the loss.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne scored its most goals in a game since a 20-2 victory over Newberry on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.
•    LR junior attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) – who scored twice today – and Gaffney rank first and second on the team in scoring with 35 and 34 points, respectively.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on No. 15 Queens in a South Atlantic Conference showdown Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., while Tusculum travels to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Queens in a league contest next Saturday at Noon.
