LR Women’s Lacrosse Makes History With First-Ever Win Over Queens, 12-11

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (4-6, 4-0) scored the last four goals in the final six minutes - including the game-winner with 56 seconds by junior attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) - to stun No. 17 Queens (2-7, 1-1), 12-11, on Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at Moretz Stadium. 

The triumph was the program's first-ever victory over the Royals while Lenoir-Rhyne handed Queens its first-ever conference regular season setback (the Royals were 31-0 against league foes entering the contest).

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    The Bears were led by junior attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.), who scored five goals including the contest-winner with under one minute to play.  Lenoir-Rhyne rallied from an 11-8 deficit with under six minutes to take the win.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior midfielder Rachel Elmore (White Plains, Md.) finished a close second in scoring, totaling four goals in the victory in addition to nine draw controls.
•    Queens was led by Hanna Scott (Centreville, Md.) with four goals, one assist and three ground balls as the Royals held advantages in both shots taken (30-21) and ground balls (18-8) despite the loss.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the win for the Bears after stopping eight shots on the afternoon.  Queens' Sarah Mitrecic (Ocean City, Md.) made two saves but suffered the loss in goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Sousa, the recently-named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, crossed the century mark for goals scored in her career during the contest and now has 102 scores and counting.  Sousa also has a team-leading 33 goals this year.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne sits alone atop the South Atlantic Conference standings at 4-0.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at Moretz Stadium to take on No. 11 Rollins Sunday at 1:00 p.m., while Queens hosts Tusculum Saturday at Noon in a league contest.
