No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Holds Coker Scoreless In Doubleheader Sweep, 8-0 And 1-0

Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (28-5, 5-1), ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, swept Coker (22-12, 3-5), 8-0 and 1-0, in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader Wednesday at Bears Field.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 1):
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior second baseman Madison Poe (Siler City, N.C.) and freshman first baseman Kylee Leonhardt (Lincolnton, N.C.) both hit two-run home runs while Leonhardt's round-tripper was a walk-off as the Bears run-ruled the Cobras in six innings.  
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) won her ninth straight game.  Parks (13-3) threw a four-hit shutout – her fourth of the year – while striking out five batters in the win.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 2):
•    Lenoir-Rhyne scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore designated player Mackensi Swain (Pinetown, N.C.) drove in freshman pinch runner Ashten Hinkle (Capron, Va.).
•    LR junior Emily Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) improved to 14-2 on the year after tossing a two-hit shutout, her fifth of the year.  Meanwhile, Coker's Taylor Forehand (New Bern, N.C.) (3-3) suffered the loss despite throwing a two-hit complete game as well.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne improved to 14-0 at home this year.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior outfielder All-American Erin Boone (Creedmoor, N.C.), who had three hits in the first contest, still leads the team in hitting (.434).

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on first-place Anderson in a South Atlantic Conference showdown Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Coker, meanwhile, travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
