No. 12 LR Softball Continues To Roll With Sweep Of Anderson, 10-4 And 6-3

Hickory, N.C. – The No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (30-5, 7-1) moved into sole possession of first place in the South Atlantic Conference standings with a doubleheader sweep of Anderson (24-8, 6-2), 10-4 and 6-3, Friday afternoon in a league showdown at Bears Field.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 1):
•    Lenoir-Rhyne was powered by three home runs – one from freshman outfielder Savannah Moorefield (Claudville, Va.) and two from senior catcher Mackenzie Cates (Efland, N.C.) – in the victory.  Cates, who drove in four runs as well, now has a team-leading seven home runs on the year.
•    The Bears took control with a six-run first inning and held on for the victory.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior outfielder Christina Walker (Roxboro, N.C.) tallied three hits and two RBI to lead the Bears' 11-hit attack while junior Emily Kenley (Charlotte, N.C.) (15-2) pitched six scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.
•    For Anderson, Abigail Webb (Phenix City, Ala.) drove in a run on a pair of hits while Kayla Pepper (Anderson, S.C.) fell to 8-4 after taking the loss.

STATS OF THE GAME (Game 2):
•    Back-to-back sacrifice flies by freshman first baseman Kylee Leonhardt (Lincolnton, N.C.) and senior shortstop Madison Carter (Bessemer city, N.C.) in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the Bears the lead for good at 4-3 before adding a pair of runs in the sixth frame.
•    Leonhardt finished with two runs batted in while junior Brandi Parks (Roaring River, N.C.) improved to 14-3 on the year after going the distance.  Parks allowed just one earned run.
•    Anderson's Cailah Niles (Phenix City, Ala.) had an RBI double but Harlie Duncan (Tolono, Ill.) fell to 10-2 after taking the loss on the mound.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne improved to 16-0 at home this year.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior outfielder All-American Erin Boone (Creedmoor, N.C.), who had three hits in the second game, continues to lead the team in hitting (.438).  Boone also scored the game-winning run in the nightcap.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home to take on Lincoln Memorial in a league doubleheader on Monday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m., while Anderson travels to Wingate, N.C., to face conference-foe Wingate in a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
