No. 5 LR Men’s Lacrosse Rolls To Victory Over Seventh-Ranked Belmont Abbey, 10-4

Belmont, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse Team (6-1), the fifth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, continued its success against top teams in the country with a 10-4 win over No. 7 Belmont Abbey (5-1) Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior attacker Joe Buduo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) with four goals while sophomore midfielder Eric Dickinson (Charlotte, N.C.) added three scores as the Bears knocked the Crusaders from the ranks of the unbeaten.
•    Belmont Abbey scored the first two goals of the match before Lenoir-Rhyne took control by reeling off the next 10 scores.  Senior midfielder Shane Gottberg (Mooresville, N.C.) scored the match-winner six seconds into the second half while the Bears kept the Crusaders off the board until the fourth quarter.
•    Belmont Abbey held a 40-30 advantage in shots taken but Lenoir-Rhyne senior goalkeeper Ryan Crompton (Frederick, Md.) stopped 18 shots while earning the win.  The Crusaders' goalkeeper, Harley Whitham (Elk Grove, Calif.), suffered the loss despite 11 saves on the day.
•    Callum Tanner (Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA), the Crusaders' leading scorer (13 goals), was limited to one goal.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne is now 3-0 on the year against nationally-ranked top ten teams. 
•    LR is also 29-4 in its last 33 games dating back to the beginning of the 2016 campaign.
•    Buduo leads the team in goals scored (23) and total points (31).

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne opens South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday against Wingate in Wingate, N.C., beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Belmont Abbey takes on third-ranked Tampa on the road next Wednesday, March 14, at 8:00 p.m.
