Hickory, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Tennis Team (13-7, 4-5) gave No. 15 Queens (8-3, 7-1) all it could handle but eventually fell to the Royals by a 6-3 score on Wednesday in a South Atlantic Conference match on Senior Day for the Bears at the YMCA of Catawba Valley.
The Royals were ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II and seventh in the region entering the contest.
Lenoir-Rhyne won at No. 5 singles – sophomore
Paul Lenz (Ratingen, GERMANY) – and at first doubles – juniors
Hamed Gandouz (Hammam Souse, TUNISIA) and
Shane O'Dea (Dublin, IRELAND) – and third doubles with the duo of junior
Alex Crespo Sanchez (Valencia, SPAIN) and sophomore
Tales Miranda (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL). The Bears had a 2-1 advantage entering singles play.
Lenoir-Rhyne wraps up league regular season play on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn., against Lincoln Memorial while Queens faces Mars Hill on the road Friday beginning at 4:00 p.m., in Mars Hill, N.C.
