LR Women’s Lacrosse Downs Catawba, 14-9, To Clinch Its First-Ever SAC Regular Season Title

Salisbury, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (7-7, 7-0) claimed a share of its first-ever South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship with a 14-9 win over Catawba (9-6, 5-1) in a league showdown Wednesday afternoon at Kirkland Field and Shuford Stadium.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    The Bears were led by sophomore attacker Cathleen Gaffney (Allentown, Pa.) and junior midfielder Rachel Elmore (White Plains, Md.) with four goals each as Lenoir-Rhyne won its third straight match.
•    Elmore scored with 31 seconds left before halftime to break a five-all tie and proved to be the match-winner.  Lenoir-Rhyne also held advantages in both shots taken (40-25) and ground balls (30-23) in the win.
•    Catawba was led by Erin Green (Stratford, N.J.) and Nicole Hunt (Pleasant Garden, N.J.) with a pair of goals and one assist each as the Indians suffered their first loss in league play this year.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne senior All-American goalkeeper Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas) earned the win after making 12 saves while Madison Anselmo (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 16 stops for the Indians despite the loss.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne junior attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) scored three times and now has a team-leading 47 goals and 56 points on the year.  Elmore has 38 goals on the year as well.
•    Lenoir-Rhyne is now 4-0 all-time against Catawba on the road.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts No. 4 Florida Southern Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at Moretz Stadium while Catawba takes on Queens in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday afternoon in league action beginning at 3:00 p.m.
