LR’s Rally Falls Short To Queens, 13-9, In The 2018 SAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship

Wingate, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (9-9) fell to Queens (11-8) by a 13-9 score on Sunday afternoon in the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championship game at Graham Gill Field.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•    The Royals' Katie Wardle (Ellicott City, Md.) led all scorers with six goals as Queens won its fifth straight league tournament championship (2014-18).
•    Lenoir-Rhyne was led by junior attacker Gabby Sousa (Delran, N.J.) with four goals while sophomore attacker Cathleen Gaffney (Allentown, Pa.) added three scores and two assists in the setback.
•    After falling behind by a 12-5 score with just over 15 minutes left in the contest, the Bears tried to rally with four straight goals but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.  
•    Queens' Chase Brokaw (Sykesville, Md.) earned the win in goal after stopping four shots while Lenoir-Rhyne senior Ines Flueck (Coppell, Texas), the league player of the year, suffered the loss despite totaling 14 saves.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Sousa increased her school single-season record for goals to 63 while Gaffney now has a Lenoir-Rhyne record and league-leading 40 assists on the season.
•    The Bears were competing in their fourth SAC Championship game in school history.
•    Sousa, Flueck, junior midfielder Rachel Elmore (White Plains, Md.) and senior defender Emily Kessler (Syracuse, N.Y.) all earned league all-tournament honors for the Bears.

UP NEXT:
Lenoir-Rhyne will host ninth-ranked Limestone on Saturday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m., in the regular season finale at Moretz Stadium.
