Men's Soccer Explodes For Most Goals In A Game Since 2012 In Win At Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Team drubbed Newberry by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play. The five goals scored are the most in a game under Head Coach Jack Winter and the first time LR scored five times since Oct. 3, 2012, against Montreat.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
•    Victor Cascon found the back of the net twice in the match and was one of four players to score for the Bears in the blowout.
•    Florian Simon scored the first goal of the game before the Wolves found the equalizer in the 31st minute. LR would go on to score three goals in a 14:40 span to blow the game open.
•   LR held a 19-6 advantage in shots and an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bears also had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
•   Goncalo Garcia finished with a goal and an assist and led the team with four shots. Garcia's goal was his third of the season.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    This marks the third straight win for Lenoir-Rhyne over Newberry and puts the overall series at 18-4-1 in favor of the Bears.
•    The win pulls LR into third place in the conference standings. The Bears trail Queens and Wingate who each sit at 2-0.
•    The Bears have scored the second-most goals (9) in league play this season, trailing only Carson-Newman.

UP NEXT:
LR returns to action on Wednesday when they host Young Harris at 5:30 p.m. in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament battle that saw the Mountain Lions prevail 2-0. Young Harris is ranked No. 4 in the nation and sports a 7-0 record.
