Trio Finish with Double-Doubles as LR Sweeps Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. –  Three different players recorded double-doubles for Lenoir-Rhyne in a 3-0 sweep of Mars Hill on Tuesday evening. Taylor Prall (16 kills, 13 digs), Selena Scudder (14 digs, 12 assists) and Helen Hamilton (21 assists, 10 digs) all finished with double-doubles as the Bears also swept the season series from the Lions.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
•   For the first time this season, LR had five players finish in double figures in digs. Ashley Hawkins had 16 followed by Scudder and Prall. Rachel Bewick added 13 and Hamilton finished with 10. 
•   Alannah Thomas finished with 11 kills, the second-most in her career. Thomas finished with a .206 hitting percentage and added seven digs on the night. Hannah Houston added seven kills and eight digs of her own.
•   Madison Asher tallied five kills and four total blocks. Senior Alexis Ivey also had four total blocks.
•   The Bears withstood a comeback attempt from the Lions in the third set. After building a 22-17 lead, the Bears saw the Lions pull even at 23. However, a MHU attack error was followed by a game-winning kill from Thomas to send LR to victory.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    The win gives the Bears a tie-breaker over Mars Hill in the league standings. LR sits in fifth place, 1/2 game ahead of Tusculum and a full game ahead of MHU.
•    LR has won three straight over the Lions. 
•    Prall nearly broke a program and conference record in the first meeting between the two teams. The junior finished with 30 kills, one shy of tying the four-set record.

The Bears return to action on Friday night when they host UVA Wise at 7 p.m.
