Women's Basketball Falls on the Road at #15 Anderson

Anderson, S.C..---The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball returned to action after a 10-day break with a road trip to #15 Anderson. Anderson, behind 25 points from Alexy Mollenhauer, beat the Bears by a final score of 71-48.

Stats of the Game:
  • Madeline Hardy hit a three at the end of the first quarter to tie the game at 14. Hardy came off the bench to score seven straight points for the Bears in the quarter. Anderson's Alexy Mollenhauer scored 12 of the 14 points for the Trojans in the opening quarter. 
  • Anderson started second quarter with a 13-2 run to take a 11 point lead; Ashley Woodroffe and the Bears responded with their own 10-4 run to end the half. Woodroffe had 6 points during the run.
  • Mollenhauer remained hot for Anderson in the third quarter, scoring 13 points in the frame for the Trojans, which helped AU build a 15 point lead.
  • Bears struggled from the floor shooting 28.3% (17-60) while Anderson shot 43.7% (25-57).  Anderson also shot 8-17 from three point range (47.1%). 
  • Freshman Ashley Woodroffe had a career high 12 points for the Bears. Woodroffe added three rebounds and two steals for the Bears.
  • LR's defense forced 15 turnovers including 10 steals.  Woodroffe, Addisen DeLucas, Laney Fox and Karlie Bearden each had two steals for the Bears. 
Beyond the Box Score:
  • Newberry ended Anderson's 25 game SAC winning streak Wednesday night with a 58-56 OT win. Prior to Wednesday's loss,  the Trojans had not lost a SAC game since March 3, 2018 when Wingate beat them in the SAC Tournament semi-finals.
  • Anderson ended Lenoir-Rhyne's season last year in the SAC Semifinals with a 77-65 win over the Bears.
  • Entering today's game, Madeline Hardy averaged 16.3 points and 11.6 rebounds in her three career games against Anderson.
  • The Bears last win at Anderson came on January 20, 2018 when now assistant coach Cassidy Joyner led the Bears with 13 points on 5-9 shooting in a 56-51 win over the Trojans.
