Clearwater, Fla. – In the finale of the 2019 NFCA Leadoff Classic, the Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team dropped a 3-1 decision to Florida Tech on Sunday morning. The Panthers pushed their winning streak to six straight, while the Bears lost four of five against top of the line competition in the Sunshine State.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Mackensi Swain provided the only scoring for the Bears with a solo bomb in the seventh inning. For the junior, the homer was the first of the season and tenth of her career.
• As was the case in both LR games yesterday, the contest was scoreless until late in the afternoon. With no score in the bottom of the fifth, Florida Tech pushed across a pair of runs on two hits in the inning.
• The Panthers added insurance in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI base hit. However,
Macie Gibson limited the damage by throwing out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
• LR was held to four hits in the contest with Swain's being the only extra base hit. Gibson,
Leanna Sherrill and
Savannah Moorefield each had singles.

Brandi Parks was the tough-luck loser in the circle, taking her first loss on the year despite allowing four hits and two runs. Parks struck out three and didn't walk a batter.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The majority of the teams competing in the NFCA Leadoff Classic advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
• Moorefield reached base twice in the game, once via a free pass, and has reached safely in six of seven games so far this year.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday in their home opener against Virginia St. on Saturday at noon. The game is part of LR's Bear Bash Tournament.
