Bears Use Offensive Explosion to Defeat Flying Fleet

Due West, S.C. – The Bears left Due West, S.C. to go north to Hickory, N.C. after an infectious hitting day with two grand slams and 12 runs led to a routine 12-3 road victory over the Erskine Flying Fleet in nonconference action on Wednesday afternoon.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•  The Bears put up an eight spot and the first grand slam of the day by leadoff hitter and senior outfielder Grant Fuller to take an early 8-0 lead after the first inning. The South Carolina native led the road team at the plate with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with two walks, two hits and four runs batted in on the day.
•  With an 8-3 score heading into the seventh inning, it was Brock Johnson who hit the second grand slam of the game down the left field line. The second baseman finished the day 1-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs.
•  Veterans were hot at the plate, but it was a freshman on the mound, Michael Allen, who got the victory for the Bears on the mound as he moved to 1-0 on the season. Allen worked 3.0 innings while giving up one hit and no runs in addition to two strikeouts. Josh Talton took the loss for Erskine, giving up eight runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
•    Lenoir-Rhyne have managed to hit three grand slams in two games.
•    The Bears improved their road mark to 2-2.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bears return home to host West Virginia State in a three game series starting with a double header scheduled for Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m.
