Weigt’s Late Three Secures Comeback Win Against Mars Hill

Mars Hill, N.C. – The Bears were down at Mars Hill by as many as 10 points in the second half, but Kennedy Weigt and the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team got hot down the stretch and the sophomore buried a game-winning three with four seconds left to defeat the Lions on their senior day, 83-81, in South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

STATS OF THE GAME:
• Lenoir-Rhyne was led in scoring by the hot-shooting duo of  Weigt and senior guard Kendall Toineeta. Weigt hit the winning three off the offensive rebound by Madeline Hardy that put the Bears on top for good and led the visiting team in scoring with 20 points, including six three pointers.
• Not to be outdone, Toineeta flirted with a triple-double putting in 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds and distributing the ball for seven total assists.
• Mars Hill had four players score in double figures, led by Tatum Boggs with 25, Mariah Johnson scored 18 and had a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds, Alexis Pardue with 18 and Shayla Smith finished with 11 points of her own.
• The road team held the advantage in bench points (31-18), second chance points (17-8) and fast break points (10-7). This game featured nine lead changes.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• The Bears have matched their conference win total from last season with today's win.
• LR has proven to be an impressive road team as they are now 8-4 away from home.
• This is Weigt's eighth double-digit scoring game and her second 20-point performance of the season, but her six three pointers is a season high for the sophomore. Toineeta has scored double-figures in 16 games.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bears stay on the road as they return to action on Wednesday night at Catawba in SAC play. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
